Hardboard siding has been a dominion in the siding market. It is most popular because of the economy it provides and variety offered to the homeowners though it is liable to the damage by sun, winds, moisture etc. It has made its distinct appearance through multiple designs like board and batten, composite panels, surfaced panels and grooved panels. Here is some basic information regarding the varieties and their availability.
Board and batten are mostly used to give the rusty, traditional look to the cabinetry doors, exterior of windows shutters and other exteriors usually. These panels consist of ridges raised on their base called batters whereas grooved panels are just opposite. There are recessed grooves in the grooved panels as the name suggests. It’s the raised ridges which give board and batter, the ornamental outlook.
Composite panels are manufactured from the saw dust, wood chips which are considered on waste material. Therefore, the trim pieces are available which will be matched to the appearance of panel. The absence of wood grains in the grooved panel marks the quality of the panels. Lesser the wood grains less probability of distortion in the shape.
The surface panels being used in a project should be manufactured from same wood type as the design depends on the type of wood used. These are covered with a sealer to preserve the appearance of the panel. This along with long life gives a typical rusty appearance to the panel.
Grooved panels or seamless panels are available in various styles and spacing. There are vertical grooves present in these panels and the made to overlap one another. The grooves might be very for apart or too close to each other. It is solely homeowner’s choice which design he prefers. Usually, people prefer wide spacing for large surfaces as walls. Narrow grooves are suitable to small areas.
Hardboard siding too requires regular maintenance. Otherwise cracks and rotting may develop due to moisture. It is easier to replace the hardboard siding panels and requires some basic skills. To protect the natural appearance from bad climatic effects re-staining should be done regularly.
