The first step to repair the vinyl siding is to identify the damaged part and what kind of damage it is? It might be cracked, punctured or has pulled away from the house. If you can’t identify don’t begin repair as you can damage the undamaged portions.
The requirements for repair include a new section, similar to the damaged section, polyurethane caulking, a pencil, a utility knife, a special zipper with which you can separate the panels and a carpenter’s square. You do need a backsaw too.
It is easier to manipulate the vinyl siding in spring summer. Ice can shatter the vinyl into pieces, so you shouldn’t try in winter season. First of all, unlock the panel next to the damaged one with the help of zipper. Lift the unlocked panel and pull out the nails that keep the damaged panel in its place use a carpenter square and a pencil to mark cutting lines on both sides. With the backsaw cut the panel carefully and cut the damaged section. Get a replacement piece 2 inches lengthier than the damaged section and allow the one inch overlap on each side. Adhere the new section in its place by snapping the top edge and nail it.
Aluminium box nails should be used and there must be able to penetrate at least 1 inch into the studs. Similarly, snap the edge on the other side.
This will create a new looking panel you can repair the holes in the vinyl sidings. To do the repair, take a small section of vinyl siding and put it posterior to the puncture. Use cement and glue to adhere the puncture siding with the small piece of vinyl siding.
